Tim Thomas - NHL Stanley Cup Odds: Can Boston Bruins Repeat as Cup Champions?

The Boston Bruins became the latest Boston sports team to win a championship last season, but do they have it in them to repeat as the Stanley Cup winner this time around? According to the oddsmakers at the Bodog Sportsbook they're top contenders.

The Bruins currently sit at 10/1 on the NHL Stanley Cup Odds to raise the Cup once again next spring, and they'll begin the campaign with only minor turnover from their title-winning roster of a year ago.

Gone are forwards Mark Recchi and Michael Ryder and defenseman Tomas Kaberle. Recchi rode off into the sunset after hoisting the Cup, announcing his retirement from the league, while Ryder and Kaberle both left as free agents.

Boston is likely also going to be without Marc Savard this season, as the veteran forward sat out the latter half of the Cup-winning season with a concussion and doesn't look close to a return to action.

Returning to the fold is award-winning netminder Tim Thomas, although he might cede some starts this season to understudy Tuukka Rask to keep himself fresh for the playoffs. Thomas put up a save percentage of .938 for the team last season.

Joe Corvo is Kaberle's replacement on the blue line, with former Montreal Canadiens forward Benoit Pouliot added to fill Ryder's spot on the roster. The Bruins will also be looking for sophomore forward Tyler Seguin to step into a top-six role on the club.

Boston's run through the playoffs last season didn't come without a few scares – they were taken to seven games in three of the four rounds – but a commitment to defense and an improved offense carried them to their first Cup win since the 1970s.
