Miami Dolphins debut new offense against Buffalo Bills

NFL Betting Online: The Wildcat has been good to the Miami Dolphins for the past couple of years, covering up shortcomings in the passing game and providing more space at the line of scrimmage for the running backs to work. But Miami appears ready to ditch the offense as a result of Chad Henne's continuing development at quarterback, and the acquisition of wideout Brandon Marshall, who should be a major weapon through the air.
The good news is offensive coordinator Dan Henning can still find ways to make Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams effective on the ground. Brown, who is in a contract year, expects to be fully healed from last year's season-ending Lisfranc fracture, while Williams seems as motivated as ever to finish his career strong. If they can both stay healthy, Brown and Williams have the potential to form one of the league's best backfield tandems.
And there is strength in numbers with Patrick Cobbs and Lex Hilliard providing sound relief for the team's top two rushers. In fact, the Dolphins boast such a deep backfield, loaded with diverse talent they might not bypass the Wildcat altogether because the scheme does allow the coaches to get two backs on the field at the same time. But for the most part, Miami's running backs better be ready to earn their yards the conventional way this year.
Buffalo's backfield promises to be deep and diverse as well, at some point this season, but early on rookie C.J. Spiller might be asked to carry a heavier load than initially planned. Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson, both recent 1,000-yard rushers, went down with injuries during the preseason and might be sidelined against Miami in Week 1. The Buffalo Bills can therefore feel relieved they used the ninth overall pick in the draft on the gifted Spiller.
At 5-11 and 196 pounds, he's not equipped for 25 carries a game, but head coach Chan Gailey will figure out ways to the speedster touches out of the backfield, as a receiver and on kickoff returns. Some depth against the Dolphins might come in the form of Joique Bell, who impressed in the preseason and has a good chance to make the team. But Spiller better be ready for prime-time because the focus will certainly be on him Sunday.
