Stephen Strasburg - MLB Lines: September 6 National League Probable Pitching Matchups

Tuesday night is a big one for Washington Nationals fans as Stephen Strasburg makes his first big-league start since undergoing Tommy John surgery. Of course Strasburg was one of the big stories in baseball last season before blowing out his elbow. The Nats will no doubt treat him very cautiously. Bet on Dodgers-Nationals and every game at Wager Web Sportsbook.

Atlanta at Philadelphia – Braves RHP Tim Hudson (14-8, 3.05) at Phillies RHP Vance Worley (10-1, 2.85). Hudson allowed one run in six innings Thursday against the Nats, his shortest outing since going six frames against the O’s on July 2. He is 1-0 with a 2.45 ERA in two starts this year against the Phillies, and is 5-4 with a 4.04 ERA on the road. The Phillies have won 12 consecutive Worley starts, which is the best stretch since winning 15 consecutive Steve Carlton starts in 1972. It’s also the longest streak for a big league rookie since the 1980s.

Houston at Pittsburgh – Astros RHP Brett Myers (3-13, 4.81) vs. Pirates RHP Brad Lincoln (1-1, 3.64). Myers makes his first start since Tuesday in San Francisco. He left the rotation temporarily to be at home for the birth of his fourth child, throwing two innings in relief on Friday. He hasn’t won since June 17, going 0-7. Lincoln surrendered three runs in six innings Thursday in a 6-4 loss to the Dodgers. Lincoln is 4-for-4 in providing quality starts so far this season.

LA Dodgers at Washington – Dodgers LHP Ted Lilly (9-13, 4.39) vs. Nationals RHP Stephen Strasburg (first start). Lilly has steadily put himself back on track, recording a 2.35 ERA in August after struggling in June and July. He’s going for his first three-game win streak of the season. Strasburg will likely pitch no more than five innings. It will be his first big-league game since August 2010. Strasburg has missed the entire season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

NY Mets at Florida – Mets RHP Miguel Batista (4-2, 4.33) vs. Marlins RHP Chris Volstad (5-12, 5.48). Batista earned his 100th career win in his Mets debut Thursday in a win over the Marlins. The veteran will give a banged-up pitching staff some experience that should help in the final month. Volstad deserved better in his last start, when he had some tough luck vs. the host Mets. In 6 1/3 innings, he allowed three runs, two earned, on seven hits. He had 13 groundouts. Volstad is 1-3 in his career vs. New York, including 0-1 this year.

Cincinnatin at Chicago Cubs – Reds RHP Mike Leake (11-9, 4.12) vs. Cubs RHP Rodrigo Lopez (4-6, 4.94). Leake could be nearing the end of his campaign as the Reds would like to limit his innings pitched in his second professional season. He currently has 158 innings pitched between the big leagues and a short stint at Triple-A Louisville. Lopez’s goal in the final month is to go deep in a game. In his last seven starts, he’s failed to go past the sixth. He lasted 5 1/3 innings against the Giants in his last outing, giving up four runs on nine hits.

Milwaukee at St. Louis – Brewers RHP Yovani Gallardo (15-9, 3.68) vs. Cardinals RHP Kyle Lohse (12-8, 3.72). Gallardo had never allowed more than two home runs in a start before the Cardinals hit four Thursday, including two by Albert Pujols. In two straight losses to St. Louis, Gallardo has allowed 12 earned runs in 9 2/3 innings. It’s been a rough second half for Lohse, whose ERA has been on a steady upward trajectory. He’ll be pitching on eight days’ rest, trying to start a season-ending kick to finish the year with a good feeling.

Arizona at Colorado – Diamondbacks RHP Josh Collmenter (9-8, 3.18) vs. Rockies RHP Jason Hammel (7-3, 5.15). Collmenter went six innings Wednesday, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out three and recording the win against the Rockies. Hammel had been removed from the rotation last month because of his year-long inconsistency. He is back because the Rockies are trying to monitor the innings of second-year RHP Jhoulys Chacin.

San Francisco at San Diego – Giants LHP Eric Surkamp vs. Padres LHP Wade LeBlanc (2-4, 5.14). Surkamp will make his second Major League start after allowing one run on six hits and three walks and striking out four in his big league debut Aug. 27. Surkamp scattered four hits in six shutout innings for the Class A San Jose Giants on Thursday. LeBlanc allowed four runs on six hits in six innings in his last start against the Dodgers. He walked one, but it preceded a two-run home run by Rod Barajas in the second inning. LeBlanc drove in a run with an RBI single.
