We’ll find out this week if a reduced field of competitors is exactly the tonic that Tiger Woods needs to get back on a winning track, as the Chevron World Challenge gets underway on Thursday in PGA Tour golf betting action at the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California.
Coming off an impressive performance at the Presidents’ Cup that was preceded by a strong third-place finish at the Australian Open, the former world No. 1 returns to the state where he was born and raised as a four-time champion at the tournament that benefits his Tiger Woods Foundation.
Think it will be enough to get him going? Bet on the even with Bodog Sportsbook's golf odds.
Woods headlines the 18-player field as the 11/4 favorite on the odds board to win the Chevron World Challenge, despite blowing a final-round lead and losing out in a playoff last year to Graeme McDowell – who is not in the field to defend his title this year.
A trio of fellow Americans rank just behind Woods on the list of contenders to win at Sherwood this week, with Webb Simpson at 9/1 odds, Nick Watney at 11/1, and Hunter Mahan at 12/1. All three of those players also competed recently as members of the victorious United States team at the Presidents’ Cup held in Australia, as did veterans Steve Stricker and Jim Furyk who are both listed at 14/1 odds to win the Chevron Challenge.
Young guns Rickie Fowler of the United States and Jason Day of Australia are also listed at 14/1 odds along with K.J. Choi of South Korea. Paul Casey of England and yet another American, Matt Kuchar, are at 16/1 odds, with Kuchar coming off a winning performance last week in China along with long-hitting partner Gary Woodland (18/1) at the Omega Mission Hills World Cup event.
Keegan Bradley (18/1), Bill Haas (18/1), Bubba Watson (20/1), Bo Van Pelt (20/1), Zach Johnson (25/1), and Martin Laird (28/1) will round out the field at Thousand Oaks.
